ผ้าขิด Khitted Fabrics
ผ้าเบย่ี ง Sabai Wrapping palm - leaf manuscripts is considered one
of the important parts of this culture. In the northeastern
region, many different kinds of Pha Ho Kham Phi (wrapping
fabrics) are found. Considered the patterns and techniques,
these fabrics are both from the local Isan and from other
parts of Thailand. The main purpose of these fabrics is to
protect a manuscript from dust and insects. It is a handicraft
that involves weaving, embroidering, knitting, and sewing
depending on each locality. These fabrics are usually made
by women in the community. Found in many regions, the
materials used to wrap a manuscript are mostly different
types of cloth ; grass - type materials are found, too.
The Pha Ho Kham Phi in Isan are diverse ranging from
Sarong (Pha sin), brocade, lace - embroidered, thread -
embroidered, Chinese silk, printed, Sabai, silk Sarong, and
Hang Mawo Grass.
